Has Brent Everett Ever Bottom

Hello everyone home at heart!

After a very busy month, is now my third report.
But first I wish you all a beautiful Christmas season with lots of snow and lots of Christmas spirit! The latter comes at us every day with at least 25 ° C and without any Christmas stuff (no decoration, no chocolate Santas, no ... what to Advent Advent so this is easy), unfortunately, not even on. Sometimes a whole new experience. Something like Advent know the Tanzanians at all. To them, the German tradition but a little closer, we decided to make the employees of the Red Cross an Advent calendar in which we (traditionsgemäß!) sweets into it have done. And just like us little children, the adults here are really excited about it. Even before the weekend will be asked if you could not because the packet to take home, since no one in the office on weekends. This is one of us but always denied. Until Monday, the adults can wait;)

Yes, the last time really is so much happening that I do not at all, because where I should begin to tell ...

addition to our normal work with the Red Cross, which I had reported in my previous post, we are now 3-4 times a month at the YMCA (Young Men Christian Association) and the YWCA (Young Women Christian Association) is used. Last month we were already twice the YMCA. This is a device which includes, according to promotional booklet in Moshi especially the following things: "Cultural Activities, games (indoor and outdoor), Swimming, Recreation, Expeditions, Mountain Climbing and Safari through M / s Transkibo Travels Ltd, camping, Bible Reflections Tuition Classes, Health Care, Conferences, Nursery School, Secondary School Education, Community Development and Awareness Education, Hostel Accommodation, Small Scale Enterprises (Hand Crafts, Food vending ...)" groups and much more. So you can already see that it really offers a lot for both the young people here, as also available for tourists. In Moshi, the YMCA is managed by an Englishman named John, who always has a joke in stock and is therefore at all, as you realize, very popular.
When we first were there, we were first shown by John and explains everything. We were able to determine where we want to get a look from time to time employees. We decided to Hostel Accommodation Class, Nursery School and the various games.

The facility offers many young people the opportunity to get some money for a good education with great chances of getting a good job later. At our first real day then there First of all we came into the hostel Class, in the are around 20 girls and boys aged 16 to 24 Everyone was very enthusiastic about the course, the same two "mzungus" who should spend the day in their class. John who works there sometimes as a teacher has, then we also left them alone for a while so we could answer all the questions about Europe and especially Germany alone, then what has really taken a long time. All were very interested and wanted to know so many things (how is the school system in Germany? What is generally different? What about the hospitals / insurance companies (there are in Tanzania, not at all)? What's the weather? What do we do again? ...). For questions about our political system was then slowly closing, as we simply ensure the necessary technical terms in English, were missing. With the promise that next time we come to them to bring pictures from Germany, then the question hour was already over. What could not be missing were the photos. In addition to a group picture would also be photographed individually with each of us, so this has also brought back quite a long time. Only after a break and drink tea was announced. Since it is a boarding school, where girls are boys are strictly separated, Basti is with the boys and I with the girls to her room. There I was then - typical girl - once questioned in private, "Have you a friend? Why not? What is ?...". with Basti After about an hour I was then advised of the relationship to each of the about 6 girls and we went to swimming lessons, which all young people here love completely. After a little swimming and volleyball, was the day for us, then already beginning to wear thin. It definitely has made very much fun because it was the same with such open arms and received so warmly.
The second time we were then used in the pre- where we just sat in class with this and have helped a little, just done to correct the math problems of the children. What the children in Germany in the first and second class is taught (Convert to 20 with plus and minus), the children are here in the age of 4 are taught sixth Again, the children were again very excited about the mzungus. Sometimes so much that they have made progress with the numeracy not as fast as we had of course been staring always:) After a short visit to John and the hostel Class, which were happy to see us again, was this day end. Next month we are then used just next to the YMCA and the YWCA, which determines brings in both, again a great experience!

mid-November we were Kimario, a Red - Cross - Member asked whether we had for pleasure, to a football game go along and there as a "medic" a little help. With only a 2 - day first - aid course during the preparatory seminar, we were not quite as convinced by our assistant, but it would certainly be very interesting. The football game, how likely each here, took place on the typical dry African soil. On one side there was a public gallery, which offered about 400 of the almost exclusively male fans place. Basti and I were - again ;-) - the only white people. Our concerns about using it, however, were entirely unfounded, since, if once a player injured, Kimario always first to address the first - aid - was on hand luggage. We were only for the carrying responsible, but luckily only had to be used once. The football game itself, however, differs from an otherwise with us in Germany. It is just as foul and there's just the fans who always try as much as possible to support their team favourisiertes.
This month we had our first accident. The Red Cross here has two motorcycles, which we sometimes rent one. As in Tanzania, it is usual to drive really fast all motorcycle riders under all this and still without a helmet (as we regrettably still, as there are no helmets for motorcycles). We got up and wanted to turn and then comes but actually a hit so fast that it can not slow down and inside moves in us. All, however, had a blessing in disguise, because neither the bikes, nor the parties involved something's happened. When we later on this in our office told us they only grinned and meant that all was not a problem ("Hakuna Matata"), the passing here permanently! Okay, well then!
We also had the month a few encounters with the insects here. When I was once in my room, came under my bed at once herausgekrabbelt a really big cockroach. Since I was just scared so I'm just out of my room and Basti, asking him to kill the cockroach. But disgust is the same as I did the animals. So had our little 8 - year-old neighbor to come to a floor all to search for the cockroach. When he finally found he simply draufgehaun times until she was dead. Pretty disgusting, but after that was at least none of the animals more in my room. The next evening, Basti then come at once to my room and said to him was something in the mosquito net. When we then looked up, it was a cricket. It is well known that in Africa are much larger, especially the insects than ours, but if this really even see it in reality, it's pretty disgusting. But with plenty of bug spray was also eventually the cricket dead
A Action of us is still missing. As we make our fries, we wanted to pouring oil into a pot to make it hot. After some time, and closer inspection, we noticed that since something floating in the oil - many small dead ants. No idea how that had come into the oil. We then decided herauszusieben the ants easily. But unfortunately, the oil was so hot that the whole Colander is melted. The hot oil, the small dead ants, the melted wire ... ah ... chaos in the kitchen ;-).

have three weeks ago, Basti and I then Luke, and Jonas, visited the other two volunteers, over the long weekend here in Tanga. After a 6 - hour Ride in a sometimes very full bus, we were finally here. Since Tanga much deeper and on the sea, it is there again a lot hotter than here - especially at night, as it also did not nearly cool. The two have actually even shown their place of work, a laboratory in the hospital in which they have carried out the last 3 months, blood tests, and malaria. Now they are like us, in the home - Base - Care and Family Planning used. In addition to chilling and swimming on the beach, we have to on a hot day with the bike on an excursion sources that were in the middle of a palm forest made. After about a half hour bike ride through a really beautiful palm forest, which in some cases very was exhausting because it had rained the night before and we had to drive through mud so sometimes, we have finally arrived. And indeed, in the forest is a hot spring comes from the ground, where you can run barefoot (very healthy for the skin / blood circulation). All this is dangerous because the source is so hot that there can not survive for dangerous animals. Unlike the other environment where we have seen, among other things Riesentausendfüßler (about 20 cm), of which one should keep far better, as they bite, which is apparently very toxic. After the hot springs we went on to a man who lives in the middle of the forest in his little palm hut. With him, we got fresh coconuts fetched and could sometimes taste the coconut brandy, which was really all very tasty. Then driving home then was announced as the sun slowly began to sink. But instead of driving, as in one way, over the bridge, this time we crossed the river with traditional messengers that are still made from a tree trunk. Fortunately, at present dry season because during the rainy season usually swim around apparently quite a few crocodiles in the River. The river was so warm that the boys are down a small hill with their bikes into the water. After more then half and hour (even in the dark), then we are again arrived in Tanga itself. Although we enjoyed the day very, Basti and I were glad when we were back home in Moshi, because we simply much less (aggressive) are mosquitoes at night and fall, the temperatures in a pleasant area in which you are good can not sleep. I had really (nachgezählt!) more than 30 stitches in the 5 days to get in Tanga (despite mosquito and insect room spray!) Because it was Ally, the contact person of Jonah and Luke, made still missing after more than 2 months to buy a mosquito net for the guest bed - the typical Tanzanian slowness.

are at our prom end of June 2010 gathered donations, the uniformly use of Sarah and me were distributed to them directly at your site (Sarah is for a year in Cambodia in a children's home). After we had in office a few times, talked to everyone we have decided on a proposal from Sinda way to start a project with microcredit.
The concept follows from:
each case, three women with AIDS from Pasua and Njoro - two districts of Moshi - get 50 000 unique TSh (about 25 €). This money is intended to use the women to their small shops (mostly fruit - or vegetable stalls in the market) to enlarge and thus increase their income. The money received will then have a week (the first three times repay weeks after receipt of the "loan") of 5000 TSh (about 2, 50 €). Can they not once a week, this is simply left out and they must pay the next week. With the repaid money then new patient on the same principle can be helped.
were chosen because women with AIDS because they have here with the worst living conditions. First, AIDS patients are often excluded from society because many people are just still not enlightened enough and are afraid of being infected by mere contact with the disease. On the other hand, many women from their husbands to leave after learning of the disease. This is the breadwinner and thus away breadwinner of the family and women themselves must look at where they get bitter, the money necessary to life. This then they deserve just as the market usually women with small fruit and vegetable stands, the next they take care of household and raising children, too.
To support these women a bit, started our project on 22/11/2010 finally. This Monday, five of the six women came with their providers (the volunteers who care for them) into the office and have been informed of Kimario Sinda and once over the whole project. After all questions had been clarified, we set the same day the contracts on, that then every six women on Wednesday, 24.11. came out of their money to get. The very next day we visited, together with regular patient visits, three of our six patients during their work on the market. It was nice to see how much they were happy to see us. I'm curious to see how everything goes. On 8 December, we all meet again, as they come into our office to pay back the money the first time.
Patients visit me are still foremost in his mind two. We went to a couple who has AIDS and who told us of their life situation. Like many AIDS patients, they are shunned by people in their area. What is so special about difficult is that they sometimes do not even food is sold there. They live on their small business with coffee. The two have also been very pleased with our visit, as they are always happy when people come to them to just talk with them sometimes normal. The other visit was very influential young for a woman. Her mother died of AIDS two years ago, so now the daughter mitkümmern to her three year old (HIV positive) brother. She has two small children himself and was abandoned by her husband, as this money was spent on the little boy. With no income now, it is reflected by begging through life. It can be seen even just very sad when so small children suffering from AIDS, through the drugs have the faces changed a little, and we know that their life expectancy by the latest medications not here is not very high. But the situations are, unfortunately, we have already seen more often and also see more often. In time you will probably get used to such ...
In any case, it shows you what really is really important in life and it is sometimes taken completely on the ground.
But you can see, there are always plenty to do. In addition to our project work and work at the YMCA / YWCA of course there are still the normal red - transfer cross work (reports, compile statistics ...). It is interesting to all, in any case and will remain so for sure too!

Christmas and New Year's Eve we get two other volunteers from Togo visit, we met at the launch seminar - Bella and Alex. We will then probably spend Christmas and New Year in Tanga with all together. In mid-January is then also the intermediate seminar. Almost three months have passed and this time passes just as in flight, with all the new experiences!

but you all a wonderful rest of the Advent season, beautiful Christmas and a Happy New Year 2011, we are here to do this year for two hours more :)!

Much love from the hot Moshi back home!
Until the next entry

Your Feli
